Job Overview
This role is critical to maintaining BHP Angola’s zero-harm safety culture. The Mining Operations Safety Officer will oversee safety protocols, conduct risk assessments, and ensure compliance with national and international mining safety standards. The position requires collaboration with operational teams to implement safety training, monitor equipment, and investigate incidents.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct daily safety audits and inspections of mining sites and equipment.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs for mining personnel.
- Investigate workplace incidents and recommend corrective actions.
- Monitor compliance with Angolan mining safety regulations and BHP’s internal policies.
- Collaborate with engineers and managers to integrate safety into operational planning.
- Prepare safety reports and present findings to senior leadership.
Required Skills
- Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (COHS) or equivalent.
- Proven experience in mining safety management.
- Strong knowledge of Angolan mining regulations and ISO 45001 standards.
- Proficiency in risk assessment tools and incident investigation techniques.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to work in remote, high-pressure environments.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Mining Engineering, or Environmental Science.
- Postgraduate qualification in Safety Management is an advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years in mining safety roles, with at least 1 year in senior safety officer positions.
- Experience in iron ore or copper mining operations preferred.
Salary
2,500,000 – 4,000,000 SSP monthly, commensurate with experience.
