Job Overview

The Hydrogeology Specialist will lead groundwater investigations, develop conceptual and numerical models, and provide technical guidance for water supply and wastewater treatment projects across Angola. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will assess aquifer characteristics, evaluate sustainability of extraction rates, and support the design of water treatment facilities that meet stringent regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive hydrogeological field investigations, including drilling, well installation, and aquifer testing.
• Develop and calibrate groundwater flow and transport models using software such as MODFLOW, FEFLOW, or equivalent.
• Interpret geological, geophysical, and geochemical data to characterize aquifer systems and assess water quality.
• Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and environmental impact assessments for water supply and wastewater projects.
• Collaborate with civil, environmental, and process engineers to integrate hydrogeological findings into project designs.
• Provide expert advice on sustainable abstraction rates, recharge enhancement, and contamination mitigation strategies.
• Support regulatory compliance by ensuring all studies meet Angolan environmental and water resource legislation.
• Mentor junior hydrogeologists and contribute to knowledge‑sharing initiatives within the organization.

Required Skills

• Proficiency in groundwater modeling software (e.g., MODFLOW, FEFLOW, Visual MODFLOW).
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex geological and hydrogeological data.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; Portuguese proficiency is highly desirable.
• Experience with environmental impact assessments and regulatory frameworks in Angola or similar jurisdictions.
• Project management capabilities, including budgeting, scheduling, and stakeholder coordination.
• Ability to work independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams.

Education

A Master’s degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates with a Ph.D. or additional certifications in water resources management will be given preference.

Experience

Minimum of five years of professional experience in hydrogeological investigations, groundwater modeling, and water resource planning. Experience in the African context, particularly in Angola or neighboring countries, is highly advantageous.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary ranging from 250,000 to 400,000 Angolan Kwanza (SSP) per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may be provided.
