Job Overview

The Chemical Process Safety Engineer will lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety protocols for our manufacturing facilities in Chicomba. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain process safety management (PSM) systems in accordance with OSHA, EU, and Angolan regulations.
  • Conduct detailed hazard and operability studies (HAZOP), risk assessments, and safety audits for all chemical processes.
  • Lead incident investigations, root‑cause analyses, and corrective action plans to prevent recurrence.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to integrate safety considerations into equipment design and process modifications.
  • Provide safety training and mentorship to plant personnel, ensuring a strong safety culture.
  • Monitor and report safety performance metrics, preparing regular reports for senior management.
  • Coordinate with local regulatory bodies and external auditors during inspections and certifications.
  • Support the development of emergency response plans and conduct regular drills.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of chemical process safety standards (e.g., OSHA 1910.119, EU Seveso‑III).
  • Proficiency in HAZOP, LOPA, and quantitative risk assessment tools.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Effective communication skills in Portuguese and English.
  • Ability to work independently and lead multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience with safety management software and data analytics.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or CCPS (Center for Chemical Process Safety) are highly desirable.

Experience

Applicants must have 5‑7 years of hands‑on experience in chemical process safety, preferably within large‑scale manufacturing environments. Experience in the Angolan or broader African market is a plus.

Salary

The competitive salary range for this role is SSP 2,500,000 to 3,500,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based bonuses may be offered.
