Job Overview
The Process Development Scientist will lead the design, optimization, and scale‑up of chemical processes for new and existing products, ensuring they meet BASF’s high standards for efficiency, safety, and environmental stewardship. This role involves close collaboration with cross‑functional teams, including production, quality, and supply chain, to translate laboratory discoveries into commercially viable manufacturing processes. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in driving innovation, reducing production costs, and supporting BASF’s strategic objectives in the Angolan market.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop robust chemical processes from laboratory to pilot scale, focusing on yield, purity, and cost efficiency.
- Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and techno‑economic analyses for new product introductions.
- Collaborate with R&D, production, and quality teams to ensure seamless technology transfer.
- Implement process safety management practices and ensure compliance with local regulations.
- Optimize existing processes to improve energy consumption, waste reduction, and overall sustainability.
- Prepare detailed technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and process specifications.
- Support scale‑up activities, including equipment selection, pilot trials, and troubleshooting.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of chemical engineering principles, reaction engineering, and process simulation tools (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS).
- Proficiency in data analysis, statistical methods, and experimental design.
- Excellent problem‑solving abilities and a results‑oriented mindset.
- Effective communication skills in English; Portuguese proficiency is an advantage.
- Ability to work independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams.
- Familiarity with safety standards such as OSHA, ISO 45001, and local Angolan regulations.
Education
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or Ph.D. is highly desirable, especially for candidates involved in advanced product development.
Experience
Applicants should have 3‑5 years of hands‑on experience in process development within the chemicals, petrochemicals, or related industries. Experience with scale‑up projects and a proven track record of delivering commercially viable processes are essential.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from SSP 250,000 to SSP 350,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based bonuses and benefits are offered.
