Job Overview
The Geological Survey Analyst will lead field and desk‑based geological investigations to identify and evaluate mineral resources in the Lucapa region. Working closely with senior geologists, mining engineers and local stakeholders, you will design and execute survey programs, interpret geological data, and produce detailed reports that inform drilling decisions and resource modeling. This position plays a pivotal role in advancing Rio Tinto’s exploration pipeline, ensuring that data quality, regulatory compliance, and community engagement are upheld throughout the project lifecycle. Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate and conduct geological field surveys, including mapping, sampling, and geophysical measurements across diverse terrains.
- Analyze geological data using GIS, 3D modeling software, and statistical tools to delineate ore zones and assess mineral potential.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports, maps, cross‑sections and presentations for internal stakeholders and regulatory authorities.
- Collaborate with drilling teams to define target locations, monitor core recovery, and validate geological interpretations.
- Ensure compliance with Angolan mining regulations, environmental standards, and health & safety protocols.
- Engage with local communities, government agencies and academic institutions to promote transparent communication and sustainable practices.
- Maintain accurate field logs, data repositories and metadata in accordance with Rio Tinto’s data management policies.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in geological software such as Leapfrog, Surfer, ArcGIS, and Petrel.
- Strong analytical abilities with experience in data integration, statistical analysis and resource estimation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; Portuguese proficiency is highly desirable.
- Ability to work independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams in remote field environments.
- Solid understanding of Angolan mining legislation, permitting processes and environmental impact assessments.
- Problem‑solving mindset with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, Mining Engineering or a closely related field is required. A Master’s degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., Professional Geologist, PMP) are advantageous and demonstrate a commitment to advanced technical expertise.
Experience
Applicants should have 5‑7 years of hands‑on experience in geological surveying, mineral exploration, or related disciplines, preferably within African mining contexts. Experience with copper, gold or rare earth projects is a plus.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 4,000,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, pension contributions and relocation assistance where applicable.
