Job Overview

The Hydrogen Production Engineer will play a pivotal role in designing, optimizing, and operating hydrogen production plants that serve industrial clients and emerging mobility markets in Angola. Reporting to the Plant Manager, the engineer will be responsible for ensuring high‑efficiency production, strict compliance with safety and environmental standards, and seamless integration with renewable power sources. Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement hydrogen production processes, including electrolysis, steam methane reforming, and associated purification systems.
• Monitor plant performance, conduct data analysis, and apply process improvements to increase yield and reduce operating costs.
• Ensure compliance with local and international safety regulations, environmental standards, and Air Liquide’s internal policies.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams—R&D, procurement, and project management—to deliver projects on time and within budget.
• Develop and maintain detailed technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and maintenance schedules.
• Lead troubleshooting activities, root‑cause analysis, and corrective actions for any operational issues.
• Support the integration of renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind, to power electrolyzers and enhance green hydrogen production.
• Participate in stakeholder meetings, providing technical expertise to clients, regulators, and internal leadership.
• Mentor junior engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of safety and continuous learning.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of hydrogen production technologies, process engineering, and thermodynamics.
• Proficiency in simulation tools (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, MATLAB) and data analytics.
• Excellent problem‑solving abilities and a proactive approach to process optimisation.
• Effective communication skills in Portuguese and English, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams.
• Familiarity with safety standards such as ISO 45001 and environmental regulations in Angola.
• Project management experience, including budgeting and scheduling.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications in hydrogen technologies, process safety, or renewable energy will be considered an advantage.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of hands‑on experience in hydrogen production, industrial gas processing, or related chemical engineering roles. Experience with large‑scale plant commissioning, operation, and optimisation is essential. Prior exposure to the Angolan market or similar emerging economies is highly desirable.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from 2,500,000 to 3,500,000 Angolan Kwanza (SSP) per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, and a pension scheme.
