Job Overview

The Mine Safety and Health Officer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive safety and health programs at the Saurimo mining site. This role will work closely with operations, engineering, and management teams to ensure compliance with local regulations, international standards, and Anglo American’s internal safety policies. The successful candidate will lead safety audits, incident investigations, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives, fostering a proactive safety culture across the site.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain site‑wide safety and health policies, procedures, and standards in line with local legislation and Anglo American’s global safety framework.
• Conduct regular safety inspections, hazard identification, and risk assessments to proactively mitigate potential incidents.
• Lead incident investigations, root‑cause analysis, and corrective action plans, ensuring timely closure and lessons learned are communicated.
• Provide safety training, toolbox talks, and competency assessments for all site personnel, including contractors and subcontractors.
• Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to integrate safety considerations into project design, equipment selection, and operational processes.
• Maintain accurate safety records, reports, and dashboards for internal and external stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with Angola’s mining safety regulations, ISO 45001, and other relevant standards.
• Promote a culture of safety through continuous improvement initiatives, safety campaigns, and employee engagement activities.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations, especially within the mining sector.
• Proven experience conducting safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to influence and train a diverse workforce.
• Ability to analyze data, generate reports, and present findings to senior management.
• Proficiency with safety management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Fluency in English; Portuguese proficiency is highly desirable.
• Strong problem‑solving mindset and ability to work under pressure.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Mining Engineering, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or CSP are highly advantageous.

Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of 5‑7 years of progressive experience in mine safety, health, or related roles, with a demonstrated track record of reducing incidents and improving safety performance.
