Job Overview
The Project Controls Engineer will be responsible for establishing, monitoring and reporting on the cost, schedule and performance metrics of construction projects within the Cunene region. Reporting directly to the Project Controls Manager, the incumbent will collaborate closely with project managers, estimators, field engineers and finance teams to ensure that project objectives are met on time and within budget. This role is pivotal in providing data‑driven insights that enable proactive decision‑making, risk mitigation and continuous improvement throughout the project lifecycle.
Key aspects of the role include developing detailed control plans, maintaining accurate project baselines, performing variance analysis, and preparing comprehensive progress reports for senior management and stakeholders. The successful candidate will also support the integration of digital project controls platforms, ensuring that data integrity and real‑time visibility are maintained across all project dimensions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain detailed cost and schedule control plans for assigned projects.
- Track project performance against baselines, identify variances, and recommend corrective actions.
- Prepare weekly, monthly and milestone progress reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with estimators and procurement teams to validate cost forecasts and change orders.
- Utilize project management software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project) and ERP systems to ensure data accuracy.
- Conduct risk assessments and support the development of mitigation strategies.
- Facilitate regular project control meetings and present findings to senior leadership.
- Ensure compliance with corporate governance, safety standards and local regulatory requirements.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical abilities with proficiency in cost estimating and schedule management.
- Advanced knowledge of Primavera P6, MS Project, or equivalent scheduling tools.
- Experience with ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle for financial integration.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English; Portuguese proficiency is an advantage.
- Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple priorities.
- Attention to detail and a proactive problem‑solving mindset.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a closely related field is required. Professional certifications such as PMP, PMI‑ACP or a recognized Project Controls qualification are highly desirable.
Experience
Minimum of five (5) years of hands‑on experience in project controls, cost engineering, or schedule management within the construction or infrastructure sector. Experience on large‑scale, multi‑disciplinary projects in Africa is a strong plus.
Salary
The position offers a competitive monthly salary ranging from SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 3,500,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and allowances may also be applicable.
