Job Overview
The Solar Photovoltaic Project Engineer will lead the technical execution of solar PV projects from concept through commissioning. This role involves detailed design, system optimization, procurement coordination, and on‑site supervision to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The engineer will collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams, including finance, legal, and operations, to align technical solutions with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed electrical designs, single‑line diagrams, and layout plans for solar PV installations ranging from 5 MW to 50 MW.
- Perform site assessments, including solar resource analysis, shading studies, and grid interconnection feasibility.
- Coordinate with procurement teams to source PV modules, inverters, mounting structures, and balance‑of‑system components.
- Lead on‑site installation teams, ensuring compliance with safety standards, engineering specifications, and local regulations.
- Conduct performance testing, commissioning, and handover documentation for completed projects.
- Collaborate with local utilities and regulatory bodies to secure permits, grid connection agreements, and compliance certifications.
- Provide technical support during operation and maintenance phases, troubleshooting issues and recommending upgrades.
- Maintain project schedules, budgets, and risk registers, reporting progress to senior management.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in PV design software such as PVSyst, Helioscope, or SAM.
- Strong understanding of electrical codes (IEC, NEC) and local Angolan standards.
- Experience with grid integration studies and power quality analysis.
- Excellent project management abilities, including scheduling, budgeting, and stakeholder communication.
- Problem‑solving mindset with the capacity to adapt designs to site‑specific challenges.
- Fluent in English; Portuguese proficiency is highly desirable.
- Ability to work independently and lead multidisciplinary teams in a dynamic environment.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications such as NABCEP PV Installation Professional or PMP are considered an advantage.
Experience
Applicants must have a minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in solar PV project engineering, including at least two years in a leadership or senior engineering role. Experience working on utility‑scale projects in emerging markets, particularly in Africa, will be highly valued.
