Job Purpose

The Maintenance Superintendent will hold complete responsibility for the safe and efficient maintenance, operation, and management of engine room machinery and vessel equipment onboard the FPSO vessel.

As a senior onboard technical leader, the candidate will ensure compliance with international maritime regulations, safety standards, offshore operational procedures, and company maintenance systems while maximizing vessel reliability and performance.

Key Job Responsibilities

1. Engine Room Operations & Machinery Management

  • Take complete responsibility for the safe operation and maintenance of the engine room and vessel machinery.
  • Ensure proper functioning of main propulsion systems exceeding 3,000 kW power capacity.
  • Supervise maintenance activities across onboard technical systems.
  • Ensure efficient operational performance and machinery reliability.

2. Maintenance Planning & Equipment Reliability

  • Manage preventive and corrective maintenance schedules.
  • Maintain technical documentation, maintenance records, and equipment manuals.
  • Ensure emergency maintenance readiness and equipment operational efficiency.
  • Develop and update maintenance instructions for engineering staff.

3. Vessel Safety, Compliance & Environmental Protection

  • Ensure compliance with:
    • International Conventions and Maritime Codes
    • Flag State Regulations
    • Class Rules
    • Local Marine Laws & Regulations
    • Company HSES Procedures
  • Support marine pollution prevention and environmental protection measures.
  • Report unsafe acts, technical concerns, and operational risks.

4. Inventory & Store Management

  • Monitor spare parts inventory and stock value trends.
  • Ensure adequate availability of critical machinery spare parts.
  • Manage fuel, lubricants, and oil consumption forecasting for vessel operations.
  • Maintain updated Oil Record Books and Engine Log Books.

5. Team Leadership & Crew Supervision

  • Train engineering crew and technical personnel on updated standards and procedures.
  • Assign duties to engine room personnel and maintenance staff.
  • Supervise watch-keeping engineers and daily engineering activities.
  • Provide shift handover reporting and operational communication.

6. Technical Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare:
    • Monthly technical reports
    • Maintenance logs
    • Emergency repair documentation
    • Equipment calibration records
    • Technical performance reports
  • Support Marine Quality Management Systems (QMS) and ISO standard compliance.
  • Ensure correct implementation of:
    • NCR Management
    • MOC Systems
    • Lessons Learned Programs

7. Procurement & Technical Support

  • Support equipment and material procurement processes.
  • Ensure delivered materials comply with technical requirements.
  • Assist Project Management Teams (PMT) with Engine Room Maintenance Statements of Work (SOW).
  • Support onboard technical documentation and discipline-specific reporting.

Required Education & Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

Candidates must possess:

  • STCW Required Certifications
  • National Certificate of Competency (CoC Reg. III/2) and Endorsement
  • Completion of required training according to the Training Matrix
  • MOU Stability Course (where applicable)

Preferred Educational Background

  • Marine Engineering

  • Offshore Engineering

Additional offshore technical certifications will be advantageous.


Required Experience

Applicants should have:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Second Engineer in offshore activities (Essential).
  • Strong FPSO experience (Mandatory).
